Abstract
1,003,513. Universal joints. BIRFIELD ENGINEERING Ltd. (DANA CORPORATION). Feb. 5, 1962 [Feb. 28, 1961], No. 7205/61. Heading F2U. In a universal joint of the transverse trunnion type the trunnion pins 14 carry bearing sleeves 18 which engage guide slots 7 cut through the wall of the outer cylindrical body portion 1 and, at their inner ends, are formed with flanges 20 having part spherical surfaces 25 which engage the inner surface of the body 1 for radial centering. Needle bearings 17 are placed between the pins 14 and sleeves 18 and thrust rollers 22 between the flanges 20 and journal member 12. A casing 6 is bolted to the body 1 and a flexible boot 10 secured between the casing and the shaft 11. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 883,617.
