Abstract

1,017,288. Isolating switches; rotatable couplings. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORPORATION. Dec. 9, 1963 [Dec. 12, 1962], No. 48452/63. Headings H2B and H2E. Electrical interconnection between a pivoted contact carrying arm 28 of an isolating switch and a terminal 51 secured to a fixed conductor is effected by a conductive resilient sheet-metal member 55 disposed in a space between relatively movable conducting members 33, 45, the resilient member 55 having a plurality of ridges engaging the conducting members 33, 45. In the arrangement shown, the switch has two movable contact carrying arms 17, 28 fixed on rotatable insulators 9, 11, each arm being clamped to a U- shaped member 13, 15 with a pin 33 extending between the limbs of the U-shaped member. Each terminal 51 extends from a tubular part 45 journalled on the pin 33 and in Fig. 5 the resilient member 55 is a split corrugated member, the corrugations engaging the pin 33 and the part 45 with bias imparted by a wedge 57. A similar interconnection 30 is provided between the arm 28 and a support for the movable contact 29, and an over-centre compression spring is connected between the arm 28 and the support. Each of the resilient members 55 may be slotted across the corrugations to provide a plurality of contact surfaces. In a modified arrangement, Fig. 13 (not shown), the resilient member is provided with a ridge at each end engaging the tubular part 45 and a central ridge engaging the pin 33, the resilient member being slotted.
