Abstract

1,042,003. Valves. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. April 23, 1964 [May 8, 1963], No. 18143/63. Heading F2V. An electromagnetically actuated valve comprises a tube 10, Fig. 1, having a seating 12 for a valve closure 13 which comprises a ball 13 carried by an iron cylinder 14. Two coils 16, 17 surround the tube such that energization of the coil 16 opens the valve and energization of the coil 17 closes the valve. A D.C. actuation circuit for operating the valve comprises a rotary switch 20. Fig. 5 (not shown), which is turned to the contact 22 to energize the coil 16 to open the valve and then moved to contact 23 to hold the valve open, the current then passing through a resistor 24 to prevent overheating of the coil 16. To close the valve, the switch is turned to contact 25 to energize the coil 17.
