Abstract
1,044,325. Laminates. E. I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. Oct. 22, 1964 [Oct. 25, 1963], No. 43134/64. Addition to 980,757, Heading B5N. A laminated material comprises an opaque, surface-receptive polyvinyl fluoride film bonded to a water-resistant, resilient, flexible backing material by an intermediate layer of an adhesive comprising a polyalkyl acrylate, an isocyanate curing agent and carbon black. The isocyanate curing agents are defined as being polyisocyanates containing more urethane than isocyanate groups and being the reaction products of diisocyanates with trihydric alcohols or mixtures thereof with dihydric alcohols. The polyvinyl fluoride is rendered surface receptive by introducing therein functional groups, e.g. >C=C<,-OH, -COOH, =CO, -NH 2 or -CONH 2 groups which can react with the adhesives to form a bond. The polyvinyl fluoride is preferably oriented by stretching prior to lamination and is rendered opaque by the preincorporation therein of pigments, e.g. titanium dioxide, lamp black, chrome yellow, cadmium selenide red, phthalocyanine blue and phthalocyanine green. Specified backing materials are felts, e.g. asbestos felts or non-woven fibre glass mats impregnated with asphalt, neoprene-acrylonitrile rubbers, nitrile rubbers or acrylate rubbers.
