Abstract

1,047,264. Extruding. SCHLOEMANN A.G. Feb. 5, 1964 [March 20, 1963], No. 4831/64, Heading B3P. [Also in Division B5] A single or double billet cable sheathing extrusion press has one or more auxiliary rams, the operating spaces of which are filled with extrusion material during the main extrusion operation and which maintain the extrusion at a diminished rate whilst the press is being recharged, the auxiliary rams supplying the stored material to the die orifice, where the sheath is formed, without substantial change in its direction of flow. Material from main ram chambers 5, 6 is forced through passages 3, 4 to the main extrusion chamber 2 to be extruded as a sheath round cable 29 at the gap 23 (Fig. 1, not shown) between mandrel 24 and die 25. Part of the material passes to the operating spaces 9-14, of auxiliary rams 15-20, which continue the extrusion whilst the main rams 5, 6 are being recharged. Opposed auxiliary rams i.e. 15, 17; 18, 20; and 16, 19 may be coupled together for joint control.
