Abstract

A tubular foraminous diaphragm for an electrolytic cell is formed from electrically nonconducting filaments overlapping one another and running obliquely with respect to an adjacent annular electrolyzing zone and secured together at the points of overlap. Typically polypropylene is used for the filaments which overlap at angles of 60 to 120 degrees and are fused together at the crossing points. A second inner diaphragm may be provided formed by one or more turns of a flat woven fabric formed of smaller filaments and having rectangular openings of smaller size than the outer diaphragm and formed of glass, nylon, polythene, propylene, or PTFE. The fabric of both diaphragms may be coated with an epoxy resin. The description of the diaphragms is included also in the parent Specification.ALSO:A tubular non-woven fabric formed of obliquely overlapping non-conducting filaments e.g. of polypropylene secured together at their points of overlap as by fusion or a flat woven fabric of glass, nylon, polythene, polyproylene, or PTFE is coated with an epoxy resin.ALSO:A foraminous tubular fabric for use as a diaphragm in an electrolytic cell is formed from electrically non-conducting filaments overlapping one another and running obliquely with respect to an adjacent electrolysing zone and secured together at the points of overlap. Typically polypropylene is used for the filaments which overlap at an angle between 60 degrees and 120 degrees and are fused together at the crossing points. The fabric may be coated with an epoxy resin.
