Abstract

1,050,061. Apparatus for position measurement. J. HEIDENHAIN. Jan.14, 1965 [Oct. 2, 1964], No. 1744/64. Heading G1M. In apparatus for position measurement having two parts relatively displaceable to one another e.g. a machine bed 1 and a slideable table 2, a plurality of scales 3 are attached to the machine bed 1 joined together by connecting elements 6, in the shape of U-form parts 10, pads 11, 11′ and screws 12, to make a composite scale and a scale reading device 4 attached to the slideable table 2, the composite scale being fixed to the machine bed 1 by a holding device 7, and supported in guides 8 at a plurality of other places. To facilitate guiding the scale 3 bearing elements 24, 24′ see Figs. 2, (not shown) are fitted in forks 18, 19 of the guides 8. These elements 24, 24′ may be replaced by pneumatic air bearings. An eccentrically mounted spring-loaded bearing element 27 is also mounted on the guides 8 to align them. The holding device 7 and connecting elements have the same coefficient of expansion as the individual scales.
