Abstract

1,058,612. Soldering. SOC. ANON. DES USINES CHAUSSON. Aug. 20, 1963 [Aug. 21, 1962], No. 32979/63. Heading B3R. Apparatus for soldering assembled heatexchanger elements comprises a conveyer to convey a number of carriers along sequentially disposed paths through treatment stations, each carrier accommodating the heat-exchanger elements, a first rotatable device having carrierreceiving passages, feed means to feed carriers into the passages, flux coating means downstream of the first rotatable device, means to transfer the carriers from the rotatable device to the coating means and to a second path, a second rotatable device to receive the carriers from the second path and to displace the carriers to a vertical position and means to transfer the carriers to a third path through a soldering chamber. A conveyer (1), Fig. 1 (not shown), supports carriers (2) each comprising an open framework in which radiator elements are clamped and carriers are conveyed from a loading point (3) to a rotatable device (A) which rotates through a small angle and directs the carriers to a fluxing station (4). From a draining area. (5) beyond the station (4) a second rotatable device (B) rotates and positions the carriers vertically for entry to a first oven (7) and a third rotatable device (C) rotates through 180 degrees and positions the carriers for entry to an upper second oven (71). The soldered radiators are discharged at station (8). The rotatable devices (A), (B) and (C) each comprise six sectors (17), Fig. 5 (not shown), forming between them passages (26) long enough to receive two carriers end to end, the device being rotatable step by step by a jack (28) operating a crank (35) on the spindle (20) of the device a locking jack (28) is provided. Transfer jack (V,) transfers the carriers from the loading point into a passage in the turning device (A), the device is rotated one-sixth of a turn and a second jack (V 2 ) transfers the carriers to the fluxing station (4). The fluxing station comprises a pivoted support (58), Fig. 6 (not shown), having a passage (65) to receive the carriers and being rotatable about the pivot by a jack (67) to immerse the carriers in a flux bath (84). The carriers are returned to their initial position and transferred to the conveyer where they drain. The carriers are transferred to turning device (B) which rotates to position them vertically for passage past a station (6) where excess flux is removed by blowing air from a turbine (92), Fig. 8 (not shown), through the carrier into an evacuation chamber (93) and finally through a flux separator (95). The carriers are then conveyed to the oven (7) comprising a tunnel (101), Fig. 9 (not shown), of half the height of the carriers having a first hot air preheating chamber (104) in which only the lower collectors are heated, a second hot air preheating chamber (109) where all the lower half of the radiators are heated, a hot air soldering chamber (110) and a cold air cooling (116). The hot air is heated by gas burners and blown by turbines and melts solder covering the assembly parts. The .carriers pass to the third turning device (C) where they are turned through 180 degrees and directed to the upper oven (71) which shares the same heating means as the lower oven and solders the other half of the radiators. The carriers are turned in device (B) before passing to unloading point (8). Transfer jacks effect movement of the carriers on the conveyer.
