Abstract
1,064,396. Diaphragm compressors. GEORGE KENT Ltd. Dec.6, 1965 [Dec. 8, 1964], No.49986/64. Heading F1N. A double-acting diaphragm pump comprising a cylinder (6) Fig. 2 (not shown) divided by a spring-biased diaphragm (7) into chambers (5, 8) is arranged in parallel with a gas meter (1) and a two-way valve (4) which latter is mechanically linked by a lost motion connection to the diaphragm (7) whereby when the latter has been moved slowly to one end position by the action of supply pressure in chamber (8) and acting against diaphragm spring (10) thereby displacing gas from chamber (5) into a point in the meter line downstream of the closed valve (4) the valve (4) is snapped open and gas in chamber (8) is forced through the meter by rapid displacement of the diaphragm by its spring (10) assisted by gas pressure downstream of the meter to its other end position in which the valve (4) is re-closed with snap action. Gas is thus passed through the meter (4) in gulps whereby small flow rates are registered. During normal flow rates gas pressure in chamber (8) so exceeds that in chamber (5) that valve (4) is maintained open.
