Abstract
1,067,526. Carding engines. MASCHINENFABRIK RIETER A.G. Oct. 31, 1963 [Oct. 31, 1962], No. 43070/63. Heading D1N. Fibre webs are removed from the doffer of a carding machine by a card clothed intermediate roller with which are associated in close proximity a pair of upper and lower rollers mounted in close proximity to each other and to a guide roller. The upper and lower rollers 8, 9 are spaced a similar distance from the intermediate roller 4 as the intermediate roller 4 is spaced from the doffer 6, i.e. about 0.2 to 0.3 mm. and the guide roller 16 may be similarly spaced from the roller 9 or may be in pressure contact. Where rollers 16 and 9 are under pressure, the roller 16 may be barrel-shaped in order to counteract bending, alternatively the rollers may be mounted slightly obliquely to each other. The upper roller 8 is formed with helical grooves, the leading edges of the grooves being formed with an acute angle to facilitate the wiping of a web from the intermediate roller 4. When the doffer is being started and until a web is being satisfactorily delivered, one or more jets of air are blown longitudinally of the roller 8 and are discharged through an outlet 24 from an area within a cover 2. Paddle or brush rollers 12 are arranged to produce air movements within the cover. Clothing for the intermediate roller 4 may be of saw tooth form with the angle between the leading edges of the teeth and the radius of the roller falling between 15‹ to 25‹, or the clothing may be a fillet of flexible wires set at similar angles.
