Abstract
1,075,532. Ink-ribbon spools. W. D. LANDGRAF. July 1, 1964 [July 26, 1963], No. 27203/64. Heading B6F. Spools construction; cartridges and like selfcontained ribbon units.-An inked ribbon spool pack comprises two identical double flanged spools 10, 11, Fig. 1, having an ink ribbon 16 wound between them and a frangible bridge 15 interconnecting flanges 13 to form an integral spool pack. Each spool 10, 11 comprises a first flange 12 having an external hub 32, and a second flange 13 having an internal hub 30 which nests in the hub 32, a projection 35 on the flange 13 engaging a slot 21 in a further hub 14 integral with the flange 12 to secure the flanges and hubs irrotationally. Ink-ribbon connections.-The flange 12 is provided with a cut-out 18 affording a space for looping a slit in the ink ribbon 16 over a pin 19 upstanding from the hub 14. Spool mountings.-With one make of typewriter (Fig. 4, not shown) the severed spools 10 and 11 are mounted in a well 42, an axial pin 41 engaging a central opening 40 in the inner hub 30 and the spool is driven by a pin 43 engaging one of five radially extending slots in the flange 13. With another make of typewriter (Fig. 5, not shown) the flange 13 is removed, a hollow cylinder 49 of the spool mount engaging the inside of hub 14, the single flange spool being further located by a cylinder 55 engaging the hub 32, which hub is also provided with a passage 51 to permit movement of a ribbon reverse lever 24. The hubs and flanges are so arranged that the spools can be driven from the drive and reverse mechanisms of the appropriate typewriters.
