Abstract
1,078,458. Making fasteners. BISHOP & BABCOCK CORPORATION. March 14, 1966 [Oct. 21, 1965], No. 11113/66. Heading B3A. [Also in Division F2] A screw receiving fastener is formed in a metal sheet 11 by first pressing a rounded protuberance 10 from the sheet, radially slitting the protuberance at 13 and simultaneously performing a coining operation to produce a helical section 15 extending from opposite edges of the slit, and finally punching a central hole (16) (Fig. 6, not shown) to receive a screw. The helical inwardly facing perimeter of the hole is engaged by the thread of a screw used with the fastener.
