Abstract
A process for regenerating pickling liquor which contains HCl comprises withdrawing pickling acid at a rate which corresponds to the loss of iron from the articles being treated, concentrating the acid by evaporation almost to the saturation limit of the salts dissolved therein by direct heat exchange with hot gases (e.g. 500-900 DEG C.) in a tower; heating the acid in a fluidized bed of inert material (sand) into which is introduced a fluid fuel and free oxygen – containing gas, removing the resultant metal oxides and dust from the gases from roasting and absorbing the HCl contained in the gases e.g. in an untreated partial stream of the pickling acid, the residual gases being used for the heat-exchange step. The fluidized bed is maintained at the decomposition temperature of FeCl2 at least, preferably at about 800 DEG C.ALSO:A process for regenerating pickling liquor which contains HCl comprises withdrawing pickling acid at a rate which corresponds to the loss of iron from articles being treated, concentrating the acid by evaporation almost to the saturation limit of the salts dissolved therein by direct heat exchange with hot gases at 500-900 DEG C. in a tower; heating the acid in a fluidized bed of inert material (sand) into which is introduced a fluid fuel and free oxygen-containing gas, removing the resultant metal oxides and dust from the gases from roasting and absorbing the HCl contained in the gases, e.g. in an untreated partial stream of the pickling acid, the residual gases being used for the heat-exchange step.
