Abstract
1,081,464. Laminates. FELDMUHLE A.G. Aug. 6, 1964 [Aug. 6, 1963], No. 32100/64. Heading B5N. [Also in Division F3] Armour plate is characterized by a layer consisting of particles, preferably of spherical or polyhedral shape, of sintered refractory material, bonded together by a matrix of softer material such as a phenol-aldehyde resin reinforced with glass or natural fibres or minerals such a feldspar, or epoxy resins which may be plasticized with a long chain fatty acid polyamide. Examples of refractory materials are alumina, other high-melting oxides, nitrides or carbides, e.g. silicon carbide. Outer layers of the armour plate may be of steel or alloy, or of light materials which may be coated with epoxy resin-bonded finely ground hard materials such as corundum. The resins of the particlecontaining layer may include fire resistant additives such as antimony oxide or chlorine or bromine compounds, or may have chlorinated components or contain SO 2 or phosphoruscontaining groups. They may also contain radio-activity protective materials such as carbon boride. In examples steel tubes are filled with globules of sintered corundum and a casting resin, e.g. epoxy resin and are closed by welded steel plates.
