Abstract

1,081,715. Jib angle indicators for cranes. MARK VISCEGLIA Inc. Sept. 28, 1964 [Sept. 30, 1963], No. 39384/64. Heading B8B. Two mercury switches 35, Fig. 6, are pivotally mounted on the boom of a crane and are preset by rotating them about spindles 38 so that the contacts of one of them are closed when the jib is lowered to a predetermined angle with respect to the horizontal and the contacts of the other are closed when the jib is raised to a predetermined angle with respect to the vertical. This operates a warning light and buzzer in the operator’s cab. A test switch in the cab enables the operation of the warning devices to be checked. The spindles 38 have knobs 48, Fig. 2, mounted on them and the latter have pointers which move over 90 degrees scales to indicate the angles of the boom at which the warning devices are set to operate. The switches Fig. 18, have semicircular contacts 94, 96 so that rotation of the switches about their longitudinal axes does not render them inoperative. The device may be adapted in a simple manner for mounting on either the right-hand or lefthand side of the boom depending on which side of the boom the operator’s cab is located.
