Abstract
1,084,870. Carpet sweepers. QUALCAST (FLEETWAY) Ltd. Aug. 30, 1966 [May 31, 1965; Sept. 3, 1965; Nov. 18, 1965], Nos. 23104/65, 37780/65 and 49086/65. Heading A4F. In a carpet sweeper. comprising an inverted box-like casing 10 (Fig. 3, not shown) within which are mounted a rotary brush 23 and two pairs of floor contacting wheels 27 supported on axle rods 28 on opposite sides of the brush, the ends of the axle rods 28 and the brush 23 are supported at each side of the casing 10 by spaced bushings 17, 18 which are either integral with, or as shown, inserted through apertures in the casing wall from the outside. The bushings 17, 18 may be formed integrally with a. single mounting plate 16 provided with cam surfaces 26 for controlling the rocking movement of a handle bail 24. Each pair of wheels 27 is urged downwardly by a wire spring 34 lowered to engage within a notch on the underside of the bushing 17. Two dustpans 32 are retained in their operative position by tension springs 37. In a modified construction the dust pans may be tilted to empty them by depressing a button 50 (Fig.. 13,. not. shown) on a bar (49) having downturned ends (48) engaging webs (47) on blocks (46) secured to the dustpans (32).
