Abstract

Bright-annealing of the bore of a tube is achieved by sweeping the air from the bore by means of a sliding plug which is followed up by a non-oxidizing gas such as hydrogen, argon, or dissociated ammonia. The ends of the tube are then sealed, and the latter then annealed while filled with gas. The plug, which may be made of felt or of packed cotton, may be forced through the tube by the pressure of the gas. The process is particularly applicable to alloys based on nickel, iron, copper or cobalt.
