Abstract
1,094,437. Weighing apparatus. CARL SCHENCK MASCHINENFABRIK G.m.b.H. April 12, 1966 [April 10, 1965], No. 16046/66. Headings G1N and G1W. A vehicle weighing apparatus includes a pair of parallel track members 1, 2 for supporting wheels of the vehicle, each member being pivotally supported with respect to a base 11 and resting on a load cell 16, 17 at a point displaced from the pivot point 12, 13, each pivot point being aligned with the load cell associated with the other track member on a line perpendicular to the track members. Links 20, 21 extend transversely between each track member and the base to prevent horizontal movement. In the arrangement described two pairs of track members are spaced apart for supporting all the wheels of a fourwheeled vehicle, and the load cell outputs are added together when the vehicle is stationary. Two circuit arrangements are described for computing the weight of a vehicle moving at a constant speed over the track members. In both cases the outputs from one pair of load cells 16, 17 are differentiated, the original and differentiated signals are stored in memory units 31, 33, 35, 37 and the differentiated signals are added. In Fig. 3 the output from adder 40 is divided by the differentiated signals at 41, 42 and the resulting quotients are multiplied by the corresponding load cell outputs at 43, 44 to give a pair of signals which are added to those resulting from a similar computation involving the second pair of load cells. In Fig. 4 (not shown) the load cell outputs are divided by the differentiated signals, the two resultant signals are added (at 53) and the outputs from this adder (53) and the adder (50) which sums the differentiated signals are multiplied together (at 54). The product is then added to the corresponding product from a computer connected to the second pair of load cells. In both embodiments the load cell outputs are also differentiated a second time and the values of the load cell outputs and the first derivatives are not stored until the second derivatives fall to zero, when oscillations have been damped out.
