Abstract
1,112,063. Making tubes; welding by fusion; rolling; bending. CARLSSON & LARSSON A.B. 21 April, 1966 [21 April, 1965], No. 17465/66. Headings B3A, B3E, B3M and B3R. In apparatus for making metal tubing, a metal strip is bent over a mandrel 7 and its edges are brought into juxtaposition by a roll 10 and a co-operating roll (not shown) mounted on the mandrel. Freely rotatable rolls 2, 3 clamp the edges of the metal together and they are simultaneously welded together. The weldjoint is worked between rollers 9, 11 the latter of which is grooved so that an external longitudinal ridge 16 is formed on the tube surface. Alternatively the ridge may be formed internally or a plurality of ridges may be formed by using a suitably grooved roller. The tube may, in a further alternative, be helically wound.
