Abstract

1,113,845. Measuring temperature electrically. GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO. Feb. 14, 1967 [April 7,1966], No. 7025/67. Heading G1N. [Also in Division G3] In an alarm system for indicating when the temperature of a brake e. g. for the wheels of aircraft, is dangerously high, the temperature is sensed by a platinum resistor 22a, Fig. 2, arranged adjacent the brake, e. g. in the brake housing or in one of the tie bolts, and connected as a potential divider, with resistors 52, 54, for a stabilized 16. v. source 10,12, Fig 1, (see Division G3). The junction between resistors 52 and 22a is connected to the base of transistor Q5, via temperature compensating diode CR5, to whose emitter a reference voltage is supplied to determine the temperature at which a lamp 50 is energized. Under normal conditions transistors Q5, Q6 are conductive and transistor Q7 is non-conductive. As the temperature rises the voltage applied to the base of transistor Q5 rises to the level at which the transistor becomes non-conductive causing the reversal of the states of transistors Q6, Q7 and the illumination of lamp 50, the connection of resistor 54 into the emitter circuit of transistor Q7 producing instantaneous illumination of the lamp 50 on the transistor Q7 becoming conductive. For a system involving two lamps 28, 30, Figs. 1, 3 (latter not shown), one being illuminated when the brake temperature is too high for safe landing and take-off and the other being illuminated when the temperature is so high that structural damage may occur, the circuit of Fig. 2 is duplicated for each lamp, using a common potential divider and two reference voltages 16,18. A continuous indication of the brake temperature may also be provided on meter 46 connected to circuit 36 to which signals from the sensor are fed.
