Abstract
112,042. Wever, F. Dec. 20, 1916. Hats and head-coverings of special materials – A method of making a material which is applicable as linings for caps &c. comprises a layer of unsorted feathers attached by sewing or adhesive to a backing of fabric, india-rubber, paper, &c., with or without an enclosing layer of fabric or the like. As shown in Fig. 1, the feathers are delivered from a container 4 by a distributing roller 5 upon a fabric backing 6, and are stitched thereto by a multi-needle sewing machine 2. A top layer of fabric 13 may be led in beneath the presser foot 7 of the sewing machine. In a modified arrangement the feathers are attached by adhesive which is applied to the fabric before it reaches the feather-distributing roller 5, and the material is then pressed between suitable pressure rollers.
