Abstract
1,128,082. Laminating. HOOVER BALL & BEARING CO. 27 Sept., 1966 [21 March, 1966], No. 43045/66. Heading B5N. A continuous press for treating workpieces in sheet form comprises first and second shoes having opposed surfaces in spaced apart relation, first and second sheet metal belts positioned to move over the surfaces respectively of the first and second shoes, means for moving the belts across the surfaces of the shoes with a workpiece sandwiched in between the belts, a plurality of heating elements positioned transversely of the shoes for heating workpieces moved by the belts between the shoes, and means for indicating failure of any one of the heating elements to operate. As described the press is substantially as disclosed in Specifications 1,055,564 and 1,055,566 and includes preheating and curing sections. The heating elements of one of these sections are connected in a circuit as shown in Fig. 3 and include electrical resistance heating elements 52 connected in parallel and extending the full width of the belts of the press, and zone heating elements 56 connected in parallel sets of two and controlled by switches 62, so that only those zone heating elements which lie above a workpiece 18 of narrower width than the belts are used to maintain the belts at the same temperature across the whole of their width. Conductors 68, 70 from the elements 52 pass in opposite directions through a transformer 66 and act as the primary thereof. When the elements 52 are functioning correctly there is a cancellation of flux in the transformer primary. When one element fails there is a net flux produced which induces a current in the secondary 72 which operates an alarm signal 74. The zone heating elements 56 are connected in a similar fashion to a transformer 80.
