Abstract

1,132,892. Two-for-one twisting spindles. PALITEX PROJECT-CO. G.m.b.H. 17 March, 1966 [22 March, 1965], No. 11653/66. Heading D1D. In a two-for-one twisting spindle, at least one yarn brake is provided in the radial channel through which the yarn passes from the guide tube and from which it emerges to form a balloon, the effect of which is adjusted automatically according to the speed of the rotor. There may be a similarly-acting brake in the hollow axle part of the spindle. The brake may comprise a lever 16, Fig. 7, pivoted at one end 18 in the rotor eccentrically of the axle, so that as the rotor revolves the lever swings upwardly under centrifugal force and a head 17 on the other end of the lever presses the yarn against the underside of the rotor plate 2. When a second, alternative, outlet channel is provided for the yarn a second pivoted lever is also provided; a stop (20, Fig. 2 not shown) is provided to limit the upward movement of each lever; and the head of each lever is accommodated in the inactive position in a recess in a second plate beneath the rotor plate. The upper rotor plate may have at its extremity 19 an annular depression providing beneath the plate a surface for deflecting the yarn. The lever may be a flexible member centrifugally deflected to press the yarn against the rotor. In Fig. 8, the lever 41 is of twoarmed form, each arm having a head 42, 421. The yarn passes beneath the head 42, and when the speed of the rotor increases, the long arm rises to lower the short arm to deflect and tension the yarn, the reaction of this tension causing the other arm also to press the yarn against the plate. In Figs. 3 and 5, the brake may take the form of a concave roller. 21, 32 moved centrifugally from a socket to press against the yarn. In. other forms, there is an additional yarn-brake in the hollow axle of the spindle. This may comprise a cylindrical capsule 27, Fig. 5, with hemispherical ends between which and upper and lower braking surfaces the yarn passes. The lower surface has a ring-magnet 25 with poles facing like poles of a second magnet 24 carried on a guide-tube that is raised, to repel the first magnet and force the capsule against the bearing-surfaces, when the yarn is braked by the centrifugally-moved roller brakes above described. Alternatively, the second magnet may be connected with the brake levers 16, Fig. 7, by struts 38 to be raised when the levers pivot under centrifugal action to brake the yarn. In Fig. 6, the yarn-brake in the axle comprises two braking-members 29′ 26′ with inclined surfaces between which the yarn passes; one of these surfaces is mounted for sliding on a cup resting on a spring 33 secured to the top of a hollow guide-tube lifted as a brake lever 35 swings upwardly and hence forces the one surface against the other. In Fig. 9, the brake-member is a cone 45 cooperating with a conical seating surrounded by an electromagnet 46. This is energized when the rotor revolves by a generator comprising a stator 47 connected to the stationary bobbin cage and a rotor 48 carried by the rotor 2 of the spindle; this generator also energizes an electromagnet 47 to attract a pivoted brake lever 13 against the underside of the rotor. If the yarn breaks in the balloon, the lever will trap the yarn and prevent any more being fed out of the rotor.
