Abstract
1,136,089. Gas burner. O. ZWAAGSTRA, and A. J. ROMPELMAN. 23 Dec., 1965 [24 Dec., 1964; 18 June, 1965], No. 54702/65. Heading F4T. An elongated gas burner comprises a gas injector nozzle 1, air inlet 3, mixing tube 4 and a chamber 6 which distributes the gas-air mixture to a series of burner elements 9 clamped together between fixing elements 14 and 15 by a rod 10 which passes through tapered holes in the rear walls 17 of each burner element, the assembly of elements resting on supports 8 extending from the side walls 7 of chamber 6. The burner elements have an interior sloping face 18, Fig. 11 (not shown), and side walls formed of outwardly and inwardly sloping portions 19 and 20, the portions 19 having recesses 21 forming together with the rear wall 17 of a preceding element slits 22 on either side of a top portion 23 for transmitting the main gas flow from the space 16 within each element. Auxiliary gas is supplied through a narrow gap 24 between the elements and burner housing or passes through grooves 25 and 26 formed in the supports 8. The direction of the main flames is determined by the slope of the end faces of the recesses 21, Figs. 9 and 10 (not shown). In an alternative embodiment of burner element, Fig. 15, auxiliary gas is supplied through equally spaced horizontal slits 43 and 45 on the front and rear surfaces of each element and the gasair mixture passes to the exterior of the elements adjacent the main gas apertures through the ends of the slits which are in staggered formation, Fig. 16 (not shown). Those slits not in direct communication with the interior 38 of the elements are fed through vertically bored holes 44 and 46. In the embodiment of Fig. 17 (not shown), the elements are formed with ridges 53 which rest in grooves 52 running in a longitudinal direction along the supports 48. Sealing asbestos fibre may be packed into the grooves 52 to prevent gas leaks. Also vertical ribs 54 are arranged on the surfaces of the recesses 37, the ribs contacting the rear wall of the preceding element to form a series of vertical channels which will direct the main gas flames upwards. The fixing elements 14 and 15, Figs. 20 and 23 (not shown), used with the burner elements of Figs. 15 and 17 are formed with horizontal slits and recesses 61 and 62 for taking the nuts and sealing rings of the clamping rod. Fixing element 14 has a vertical recess 57 into which the lower slits 56 open, the upper slits 58 being in communication with recess 57 via an inclined bore 59. The assembly of burner elements is fixed into the burner housing by six cone-ended clamping screws, Fig. 20 (not shown). The burner elements may be chromium-plated.
