Abstract
1,136,518. Reciprocating conveyers. SIMPLEX CORP. 17 July, 1967 [8 Sept., 1966], No. 32743/67. Heading B8A. A feed system comprises a longitudinally arranged series of work supporting stations including a starting station at which workpieces are deposited serially, a delivery station from which workpieces are removed serially and transfer mechanism for advancing all of the workpieces one station whenever the workpiece at the delivery station is removed, the transfer mechanism also being operable to advance all the workpieces in rear of an intermediate empty station by one station so as to maintain all the stations in filled condition. Stations for workpieces W are provided by pairs of notches 10 in frame members 12, the workpieces being advanced by dogs 24 pivotally mounted on a transfer slide 14. A sensing lever 36 for controlling the operation of the dog 24 is pivotally carried adjacent each notch 10 by one of the frame members 12. A reciprocable control bar 44 is connected by links 50 to a series of control members 48, the latter being movable generally upwardly and counterclockwise. Assuming workpieces Wa, Wc are provided at stations 10a, 10c respectively but no workpiece is provided at station 10b; it is required that dog 24a be pivoted to be engageable with workpiece Wa and this is effected by movement to the right of the control bar 44, as indicated in Fig. 6 (not shown). This bar then returns to the left and the transfer slide 14 is moved to the right to advance the workpiece Wa. When all the stations are filled with workpieces it is arranged that all the dogs are moved downwardly and will remain so. When the workpiece at the delivery station is removed and if all the remaining stations are filled, all the dogs are knocked down upon reverse movement of the slide 14 and are then raised so that every workpiece is advanced one station. As long as each station remains filled, the control bar 44 and the transfer slide 14 reciprocate idly. To avoid this, switches 60 provided at each station may be connected such that reciprocation is terminated until one of the workpieces is removed.
