Abstract

1,136,637. 2,4,6, – Trichloro – 41 – nitro – diphenyl ether. MITSUI KAGAKU KOGYO K.K. 22 Sept., 1966 [27 Sept., 19651, No. 42393/66. Heading C2C. 2,4,6 – Trichloro – 41 – nitro – diphenyl ether is prepared by contacting 2,4,6 – trichlorophenol obtained by the chlorination of phenol with an aqueous solution of a water-soluble reducing agent and thereafter subjecting the so obtained refined trichlorophenol to condensation with p-nitrochlorobenzene in the presence of an alkali metal hydroxide. The reducing agent is suitably a sulphite, hyposulphite, bisulphite or thiosulphate. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,016,648.
