Abstract

1,136,687. Pneumatic discharge of hoppers on vehicles. ENTERPRISE RAILWAY EQUIPMENT CO. 29 March, 1967 [25 May, 1966], No. 14296/67. Headings B8A, B8E and B8S. A sliding closure gate 20 and a sliding plenum chamber 22 are associated with the discharge opening of a hopper on a vehicle whereby the hopper may be selectively discharged either by gravity or pneumatically. A frame 14 surrounding the discharge opening is provided with extensions 30 formed with upper and lower racks 16, 18 and with rails slidably supporting the gate 20 and plenum chamber 28. The plenum chamber 22 is provided with a removable inverted V-shaped hood 60 supported with its lower edges 63 above the base 41 of the chamber. The side walls 38 of the chamber are provided with openings communicating with the space beneath the hood and with conduit sections 65 adapted to be connected to a pneumatic system when the caps 66 are removed. In operation, if the gate 20 and chamber 22 are both located beneath the hopper discharge opening and if pneumatic discharge is required, the gate 20 is moved, by rotating a shaft 56 having pinions 54 engaging the rack 16, until the gate rests on extensions of the extensions 30. For gravity discharge, the chamber 22 is slid away from the discharge opening by means of pinions 55 and the rack 18 until the chamber rests on flanges on the extensions 30 whereafter the gate 20 is slid away from the discharge opening.
