Abstract
1,147,325. Record changers. GARRARD ENG. Ltd. 3 March, 1967 [15 March, 1966], No. 11396/66. Heading G5R. An automatic record changer has a shouldered centre spindle 1 with a pawl 2 arranged longitudinally of the spindle structure and pivotally mounted thereto to cause lateral displacement of a record from the shoulder of the spindle on to the turntable in response to lateral movement of the end of the pawl 2 that is remote from the shoulder. Pawl 2 also serves to sense the presence of a further record on the shoulder and is effective in bringing about the switching off of the turntable drive when the last record has been played. As shown, pawl 2 is actuated by a longitudinally displaceable operating lever 3 which is spring biased and arranged to be displaced in response to the anti-clockwise rotation of a cam 7 coupled to the turntable. A pin 10 secured to a cam lever 9 follows an elliptical groove 14 in cam 7 and thus causes a second pin 11 on lever 9 to abut the right hand edge of a slot 12 in lever 3 to actuate the latter to release the lowermost record. When cam 7 is rotated further a pin 5 on lever 3 comes into contact with a cam 6 having a detent 15 which causes lever 3 to move in the opposite direction until pawl 2 abuts against the edge of the centre hole in a further record. If there is no further record on the spindle the movement of pawl 2 and hence lever 3 is not limited. The lever 3 continues to move until it actuates a switch lever 17 to condition a switching means for operation in response to the outward travel of the pick-up arm. The outer edges of the records may be supported by a structure 24, Fig. 2, which is adjustable to cater for records of different diameters. Alternatively, Fig. 3 (not shown), the records are clamped between an edge support (31) and the detent of a spring-urged latch (32).
