Abstract
1,152,805. Cylinder heads; valve gear; cooling. BAYERISCHE MOTOREN WERKE A. G. Aug. 10, 1967 [Aug.13, 1966], No.36819/67. Heading F1B. In a I. C. engine cylinder head each partspherical combustion chamber 2, Fig.1 has two larger inlet valves 3 and two smaller exhaust valves 4 arranged in pairs on opposite sides of the combustion chamber 2, the planes 5′, 6′ containing the axis 3′, 4′ of each pair of valves are at rightangles to one another with one plane 5′ at an angle of between 15 degrees and 30 degrees to the longitudinal central plane of the row of cylinders and the angles between the inlet valve axes of each pair being less than the angles between the exhaust valve axes of each pair. The cylinder head has inlet passages 23, Fig. 7, exhaust passages 24, Fig. 6, sparking plug bores 8′, through bores 12 for cylinder head bolts and cooling water chambers 21 which are connected to the cylinder water cooling jacket. Bearings (25, 27, Fig.3 not shown) and 22, Fig. 6 respectively support rocket supporting shafts, bearing shafts for the exhaust valve control rockers and the cam-shaft surfaces (30, Fig. 3 not shown) support the inlet valve control rockers.
