Abstract
1,152,826. Coated aluminium supports. KALLE A.G. 5 Oct., 1966 [6 Oct., 1965], No. 44507/66. Headings B2E and B2K. [Also in Divisions G2 and H1] An aluminium base support, for use for planographic printing plates, has on at least one surface a layer containing a trihydroxybenzene carboxylic acid e.g. 3,4,5-trihydroxybenzene carboxylic acid-(1) (gallic acid), 2,3,4- trihydroxybenzene carboxylic acid (1) (pyrogallol carboxylic acid) and 2,4,6-trihydroxybenzene carboxylic acid (phloroglucinol carboxylic acid). The layer may also include a substance having the effect of improving the hydrophilic properties of the surface of the aluminium base e.g. cellulose ethers or alginates. The support may be made by coating an aluminium base, which may be precleaned, with a solution of an trihydroxybenzene carboxylic acid and the solvent evaporated. The base may be immersed for 2 to 5 minutes in a 0.1 to 1% by weight aqueous solution of the acid at a temperature of 60 to 90‹C. The solution may also contain a hydrophilic colloid. The aluminium base may be rotated and a 0.1 to 2% solution of the acid in organic solvent applied thereto. A sensitised planographic printing plate comprises the above coated support with a reproduction coating on the layer, examples of light sensitive organic compounds being given.
