Abstract
1,155,204. Lubricant. CONTINENTAL OIL CO. 5 Aug., 1966, No. 35198/66. Heading C5F. The invention comprises the use as a lubricating material of an alkylate produced by the condensation of a substantially straight-chain halogenated C 8 – 18 hydrocarbon with benzene, toluene, xylene or naphthalene, the alkylate comprising, by volume 0-70% Diarylalkanes 25-90% Dialkyl aromatics <30% Monoalkyl aromatics <25% Condensed alkaryl hydrocarbons (e.g. tetralins and indanes) and having the following physical properties Pour point: - 30‹ F. or below V.I.: at least 70 Flash point: at least 380‹ F. In certain cases the entire alkylate may be used, but usually only the bottoms fraction is used, particularly a topped bottoms fraction. The alkylate may be used alone or with additives, or may be mixed with other lubricating materials in major or minor proportion.
