Abstract

1,160,227. Metalliferous monoazo dyestuffs. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. 15 Sept., 1966 [15 Sept., 1965], No. 41300/66. Heading C4P. The invention comprises metalliferous monoazo dyestuffs corresponding in the metal-free form to the formula where D is a diazo component of the benzene or naphthalene series which may contain watersolubilizing groups, K is a coupling component of the benzene, naphthalene, pyrazolene or acetoacetic acid arylamide series which may contain water-solubilizing groups, wherein at least one of D and K contains at least one sulphonic acid group; X 1 is a hydroxyl or carboxyl group ortho to the azo group; X 2 is a hydroxyl or amino group ortho to the azo group; R is H or alkyl of 1-4 carbon atoms, and m 1 , and m 2 are 0 or 1, the sum of m 1 and m 2 being at least 1. The metal present may be Co, Cr, Cu, Ni, Mn, Fe or Al. The compounds are prepared from the compounds of the above formula by (a) treating those compounds wherein X 1 may also be H or alkoxy with a metal yielding agent, (b) exposing those compounds wherein X 1 is H and X 2 is OH to oxidizing coppering in a weakly acid solution, (c) treating those compounds wherein X 1 is alkoxy and X 2 is OH by dealkylating coppering. The resultant compounds may be demetallized and subsequently remetallized with an agent yielding another metal.
