1,160,463. Zeolites. L’AIR LIQUIDE SOC. ANON. POUR L’ETUDE ET L’EXPLOITATION DES PROCEDES GEORGES CLAUDE. 6 Feb., 1967 [14 Feb., 1966], No. 5650/67. Heading C1A. A crystalline synthetic faujasite-type zeolite is prepared by suspending an amorphous alkali metal aluminosilicate in water, adjusting the pH to at least 13 and heating under autogeneous pressure for sufficient time and at such a temperature that the required crystalline product is obtained, the suspension having molar ratios SiO 2 : Al 2 O 3 = 2À3-4 (preferably 2À5-3À5) and M 2 O: Al 2 O 3 (M # alkali metal) = 1.2 or greater (preferably 3-6). Heating may be at 100‹-160‹ C. for at least 4 hours in an autoclave and the ratio H 2 O : M 2 O in the suspension may be 10-300. The amorphous aluminosilicate may be precipitated from mixed solutions of alkali metal silicate, e.g. sodium metasilicate, and aluminium salt, e.g. sulphate, nitrate, chloride, oxychloride and may be suspended in caustic soda solution, reaction than being effected. In Examples, 4 hours heating at 100‹ C. gives a 70% yield of faujasitetype zeolite, complete conversion being obtained after 112 hours. X-ray diffraction data is given for the zeolites prepared.
