Abstract

116,599. Coackley, W. Aug. 3, 1917. Glazing.-Relates to fittings for use in glazing structures whereby the astragals are secured in position without the necessity of any drilling or smithwork and can be used in the condition in which they leave the rolling-mill. The fitting shown in Figs. 1 and 2 consists of a metal plate a, which is bolted to an angle-iron e, purlin, or scantling, and is bent at right-angles at one end h and twice at right-angles at the other end b which is forked so as to embrace the lower end of the astragal d, and also the glass sheet i. Fig. 6 shows a similar fitting applied to the upper end of a roof structure, the extremity of the forked end b in this case abutting against the sheet of glass. Fig. 4 represents a fitting in an intermediate position on a roof, between two astragals d, d’ and two sheets of glass i, i’. In this case, the forked end b of the fitting is stepped as shown and bent in the opposite direction to that shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 6, so that the astragal d rests on the fitting, the adjacent astragal d<1> rests on the angle-iron e, &c., and is overlapped and has its vertical web embraced by the forked end b, while the lower end of the upper glass sheet i’ overlaps the lower sheet i. To prevent the upper sheet of glass from sliding downwards, a forkshaped strip of metal m having outwardly-turned ends m<1> may be clipped on to the vertical web of an astragal. The fitting a may be further secured to the horizontal web of the astrag al or the astragal to the sheets of glass resting thereon by strips of metal k, k<1> which are bent as shown in Figs. 8 end 9 respectively.
