Abstract

1,172,915. Load responsive braking systems. SOC. ANON. ANDRE CITROEN. 8 March, 1967 [15 March, 1966], No. 10798/67. Heading F2F. In a brake for a vehicle having at least two axles a brake force distributer includes two rollers 10a, 10b, Fig. 2, each carried by a rod 12a, 12b and rolling along each face of a plate 11 which is interposed between a floating balance rod 9 and a control member 3, means pivoting a regulating lever 17 through an angle proportional to one axle load the proportionality being dependent on the other axle load and means interconnecting the two rods, the plate and the regulating lever whereby, under varying loads the two rods and the plate are displaced to vary the point of application of the control member on the balance rod. Brake pedal 1 controls via a rod 2 the pivoted lever 3 which acts through the rollers 10a, 10b and plate 11 on the floating balance rod 9 to control the slide valves 6a, 6b of a distributer connected to the front and rear wheel braking circuits through conduits 8a, 8b. The rods 12a, 12b and plate 11 are pivoted to a lever 14 fixed on a pin 15 carried by a support 5. As the front axle load increases, a lever 18 is moved in direction of arrow 22 to rotate lever 17 and lever 14 in direction of arrow 23. This causes plate 11 to rotate the rollers 10a, 10b whilst displacing them by half its own displacement. The point of application of the control force on balance rod 9 is displaced towards slide valve 6a to cause a front/rear differential braking effect. When the rear axle load increases a rod 24 moves a slotted member 19 towards the pin 15 so as to reduce the effective length of lever 17, thereby increasing the effect of load variations on the front axle. Lever 18 and rod 24 may be connected to a piston or bellows in a fluid suspension system.
