Abstract

1,176,986. Refrigerators. G. BORGHI. 3 April, 1967 [1 April, 1966; 16 March, 1967], No. 15107/67. Heading F4H. In a refrigerator cooled by the circulation of air through ducting, a unit comprising refrigeration equipment and part of the ducting is removable from the refrigerator. A fan is independently removable from a part of the ducting which does not form part of the unit. As illustrated, a two compartment refrigerator has a removable unit including an insulated wall 60 and an evaporator 52 contained in a box 53 which fits against the back wall 50 of the lower compartment. The unit also includes a compressor 68, condenser 69, condenser fan 70 and associated control equipment. The unit is held in place by the engagement of slots 80 with projections on the refrigerator casing and by screws passing through flanges 66. When in position, the box 53 communicates with ducts 56 and 59 and with a fan 44 so that air is withdrawn from the bottoms of the compartments, cooled by the evaporator and returned to the tops of the compartments. The fan 44 and its motor are removable from the refrigerator casing. In other embodiments, Figs. 6-10 (not shown), the refrigerator is compartmented by a vertical partition and air is circulated in one of the compartments by an induction arrangement.
