Abstract

1,199,602. Lamps. E. W. BLISS CO. 15 May, 1967 [19 May, 1966], No. 22449/67. Heading F4R. A panel light module comprises one or more light bulbs embedded in polyester resin contained in a sleeve which transmits light through one of its ends. The polyester serves as a lens and as a support for the bulb, and is preferably dyed to act as a light filter. In Fig. 4A an aluminium sleeve 322 contains two bulbs 318 each in a separate compartment separated by an opaque divider 324. The polyester 320 and 326 is dyed yellow and the upper surface 330 of the module is roughened to produce a diffusing effect. The inner walls of the sleeve act as a reflector and heat sink. Each section of the upper surface 330 is masked to provide two arrow-heads which will appear yellow when the appropriate bulb is energized (Fig. 4B, not shown). In a modification (Figs. 5A, 5B, not shown) one compartment has two bulbs and the mask is rectangular; green polyester is used. In another form (Figs. 6A, 6B, not shown) the divider 324 does not extend for the whole length of the sleeve and the portion of the latter above the divider is filled with clear diffusing polyester. In this case the top of the sleeve is not masked so that a circular illuminated area is seen. The compartments are filled with red and yellow polyester respectively. The modules may be used as repeater lamps in the display panel of the airfield control system of Specification 1,199,603, (Figs. 1, 2, not shown). The light modules are covered by a translucent sheet 302 (Fig. 4A) which transmits about 70% of the light. An opaque top sheet 300 is cut away in the portions of the panel where the lights occur (Fig. 1, not shown).
