Abstract
1,199,643. Automatic frequency control. PHILCO FORD CORP. 4 Sept., 1967 [8 Sept., 1966], No. 40342/67. Heading H3A. A television receiver including automatic frequency control by means of a frequency discriminator, is characterized in that the discriminator responds to the amplitudemodulated video I.F. signal but not to the frequency modulated audio signal. In Fig. 1 the I.F. amplifier 6 is coupled to tuned circuits 10 and 12 tuned above and below the required intermediate frequency; these circuits are coupled by detection diodes 20, 30 to transistors 24, 34 the collectors of which are coupled through D.C. blocking capacitors 51 and 62 to rectifier circuits which supply voltages to the anode and cathode of a varactor diode 70 reverse biased by the potential divider 66, 69. The varactor diode 70 is coupled to the local oscillator 4 to tune it to the required frequency. If the input to the discriminator is unmodulated in amplitude, the outputs of the transistors have only a direct current component which is blocked by the capacitors 51 and 62, so the receiver will not lock on to the audio carrier but will lock to the video carrier. An indicator such as meter 73 indicates when an amplitude modulated carrier is being received.
