Abstract
1,205,073. Floor cleaners. HOOVER Ltd. 14 Nov., 1967 [15 Nov., 1966], No. 51853/67. Heading A4F. A floor cleaner of the type which sucks up water or other liquid from a floor and is provided with an arrangement for separating the water from the entraining air comprises a housing 5 separated into two compartments by a bulkhead 13, one of the compartments being arranged to house a conduit 22 connected by a flexible pipe 23 to a suction nozzle (3) (Fig 1, not shown) in a main body (1) of the cleaner and the other compartment defining (i) a cavity in which a container 49 for storing clean water and collecting dirty water is removably received and (ii) an air-water separator which is connected to the conduit 22 through a hole 24 in the bulkhead 13 and provided with an outlet 39 which can be connected to the container 49. The container 49 which is provided with a flexible bag 61 for collecting dirty water from the separator is provided with a latch member 53 which releasably engages a lip 68 on the separator when the container 49 is attached to the housing 5, the proper location of the container being ensured by co-operating recesses 71, 76 and projections 72 and 73, 74 on the container 49 and housing 5, respectively. The latch member 53 which is of generally U-shaped construction to form a carrying handle and which is made of plastics material is provided with two openings (Fig. 5, not shown) of which one is sealingly engageable with the outlet 39 of the separator to direct dirty water therefrom to the interior of the bag 61 whereas the other is usable for filling the container 49 exteriorly of the bag 61 with clean water which is supplied to the floor for cleaning purposes via a manually controlled valve (50) and a pipeline (77). The separator is defined by a cover plate 41 having vent openings 47, a wall 32 and a wall arrangement 33 sealingly attached to side walls 9, 10 of the housing 5, and a wall 31 and a sloping wall portion 38 projecting from the bulkhead 13. The housing 5 which is attached to a handle 6 and a pivotally mounted bail 4 for pivotal movement about a horizontal axis may be of plastics material and the container 49 may also be of plastics material.
