Abstract

1,205,218. Cementitious pipes. JOHN DAVRON Ltd. 19 Oct., 1967 [26 Oct., 1966], No. 47960/66. Heading F2P. A method of manufacturing a totally cementitious pipe, which has an inner concrete surface and an outer layer of aluminous cement reinforced with a non-oxidizable fibrous material comprises the steps of forming separate lengths of concrete pipe, advancing the lengths of pipe, after setting, along a central mandrel and past a revolving head for winding non-oxidizable fibrous material around the pipe, applying the non-oxidizable material in a slurry of aluminous cement to the outer concrete surface of the lengths of pipe, and causing the aluminous cement reinforced by the fibrous material to adhere to the outer concrete surface. Aluminous cements are stated to include those having more than 25% by weight of alumina (Al 2 O 3 ), the reinforcement preferably being glass fibres or synthetic resin, or asbestos, fibres. As shown, a basic concrete pipe 2, mounted upon a mandrel 4, is axially advanced past a revolving head 6 which carries a number of reels 7 each of which delivers a fibreglass roving 8 to a guide 9 where it picks up a slurry of aluminous cement before being wound around the outer surface of the pipe 2. A ring 11, at each side of the head, passes over the corresponding ring of guides 9, and through a slurry tank 10, slurry being applied to the rovings 8 as they pass through the guides 9. In an alternative method a slurry of aluminous cement is applied to the outer surface of the pipe 2 and then the glassfibre rovings, not coated with slurry, are wound around the pipe 2. The outer layer is preferably between 1/16 and 1/4 inch thick.
