Abstract

1,205,714. Self – levelling fluid springs. HOESCH A.G. 13 Nov., 1968 [19 March, 1968], No. 53920/68. Heading F2S. [Also in Division G3] Extension or compression of a fluid spring element or shock absorber causes movement of a magnet to change the resistance of a magnetoresistive element which, through an amplifier, controls a valve regulating the supply of fluid to the spring element or shock absorber. In Fig. 3, the piston of a fluid spring of a vehicle suspension carries a magnet 8 so that when the piston rises above the position shown it is adjacent to and reduces the resistance of a semi-conductor element 1. This is effective through a transistor amplifier 7 and a solenoid 3 to open a valve in a conduit 11 through which gas or other fluid is supplied to cylinder 6 to return the piston to the position shown. The area of the magnetic pole face may be altered by the addition of pieces of magnetic material of different shapes. The response may be altered by the addition of a resistance-capacity delay circuit to transistor amplifier 7.
