Abstract
1,205,754. Automatic control systems for oscillation generators. SMITHS INDUSTRIES Ltd. 1 Sept., 1967 [9 Sept., 1966], No. 23562/70. Heading H3A. A circuit for generating electrical oscillations comprises two oscillators of different frequencies and means to derive a pulse of width less than that of the period of the oscillator of higher frequency from each or selected oscillations of the other oscillator, the higher frequency oscillations and the pulses being fed to inputs of an AND gate so that the output of the AND gate is a function of the relative phase of the higher and lower frequency oscillations, said output acting to alter the frequency of the lower frequency oscillator to maintain the relative phase constant. In the illustrated circuit, for use in an electronic clock, pulses are generated by a monostable circuit 10, comprising transistors 27, 28, 29 and receiving the output from the lower frequency oscillator 3 and pass via a differentiating circuit 11 and amplifier 12 to the base of a transistor 35. The latter is in series, in an AND gate 13, with a transistor 34 to the base of which is applied the output of the higher frequency oscillator 1. The output pulses of the circuit 13 are of a width dependent upon the phase difference between the signals from the oscillators 1, 3 and are passed via an integrator 14 to the monostable circuit 10 which is triggered when the magnitude of the signal from the oscillator 3 exceeds that from the integrator 14. The output of the circuit 10 also passes to the oscillator 3 to vary its frequency.
