Abstract
1,205,809. Refrigerating. CARRIER CORP. 20 Nov., 1967 [3 Jan., 1967], No. 52667/67. Heading F4H. In an absorption refrigeration system having solution and refrigerant circulating pumps means are provided for maintaining the pumps in operation, after shut-down of the generator, when the solution temperature is above a predetermined value so as to reduce the solution concentration. As shown, the system comprises a direct-fired generator 10, a vapour lift tube 18, a separator 20, a strong solution line 40 leading from the separator to the absorber 47 via liquid heat exchanger 41, a pump 66 for returning weak solution from the absorber to the generator and a pump 36 for recirculating refrigerant from the evaporator sump 34 to spray nozzles 38 in the evaporator. A by-pass line 78 including a solenoid valve 79 leads from the discharge side of pump 36 to the inlet side of pump 66. An electric control circuit (Fig. 2, not shown) includes a switch which when opened normally shuts down the complete system, and a further switch which closes to maintain pumps 36 and 66 in operation when the solution temperature in line 40, as sensed by bulb 1001, exceeds a predetermined value. The further switch opens to complete shut-down of the system when the solution temperature is sufficiently low. During normal operation valve 79 is opened to dilute the solution with refrigerant when the refrigerant in sump 34 is above a predetermined upper level as sensed by a float 81. When the generator is shut down and pumps 36, 66 are still operating, valve 79 is opened when the refrigerent in the sump is above a predetermined lower level as sensed by a float 82. The control circuit is arranged to render float 81 inoperative in these circumstances.
