Abstract
1,220,288. Forging. T. SAITO, M. SAITO, H. SAITO, and M. SAITO. 14 Aug., 1968 [16 Nov., 1967], No. 38823/68. Heading B3H. A transfer press comprises a pair of pillars 1 supporting a cross-beam 2 with integral supports 7 for a cam-shaft 10 which drives a series of rams 9, slidable in a guide beam 3, towards dies 28 fixed to the press bed. The ends of the crossbeam 2, the guide beam 3 and the bed 4 are received in openings 17-19 in the pillars 1. The dies 28 are slidable relative to the bed in grooves 12. The rams 9 slide in holes on the guide beam 3 and their upper ends are engaged through dovetail grooves (22), Fig. 2 (not shown), with cam receivers (21). A portion of each ram is connected to a piston in a cylinder (23) to assist the vertical movement. The bed 4 has an ejector rod 13 for each lower die operated through a rod 15 connected to a crank disc 16 on the cam-shaft. The rams are each moved in unison to hot or cold forge workpieces C, D, E, F simultaneously. After each pressing operation the workpieces are mechanically transferred to the next die. The cam-shaft is driven from a motor through a clutch and a brake 27 is provided to stop the press during transfer.
