Abstract

1,222,422. Hydraulic reciprocating motors and pumps. HAWK OIL FIELD EQUIPMENT CORP. Feb.19, 1968, No.7916/68. Heading F1A. An oil well pump is actuated by a hydraulic double-acting motor 22, Fig.1 pivoted at 23 on base 15 and acting to oscillate a walking beam 11 connected to the pump by polish rod 18. The motor is supplied by an I.C. engine or electric motor driven pump 32 drawing from a reservoir 28 via a filter 31 and delivering to a reversing control valve 35 via check valve 66 and pressure gauge 67. Reversing valve 35 has a spool 83, Fig.2, which is shifted by beam 11 acting through a block 72 sliding on a rod 71 between adjustable stops 76, 77. Rod 71 is connected by toggle springs 81, 82 and a pivoted weight assembly 91 to 98 to a lever 85 pivoted on a block 86 and connected to spool 83. Buffers 101, 102 limit the swinging movement of lever 85 and prevent rebound. Valve 35 has a neutral position, as shown, in which the connections to the motor cylinder are closed and the supply pump connected to the reservoir. A handle 106 is used to move the valve to its neutral position in which it may be held by a latch 107. Stops 76, 77 are axially adjustable to vary the stroke. During the downstroke of hydraulic motor piston 37, liquid exhausting from beneath the piston passes through a valve 42 which closes if the exhaust pressure rises above a predetermined level, e.g. due to breakage of the sucker rod string. Valve 42, Fig.5, has an adjustably spring-loaded dome 48 with apertures 51 through which exhausting liquid passes. When the exhaust pressure overcomes spring 55, dome 48 is lifted to seat on surface 59, stopping the exhaust flow, a pressure relief valve 61 bleeding off the excess pressure allowing the beam to fall slowly. A pressure-actuated switch 65 acts to cut-off supply pump motor 33. A manual by-pass valve 451 is provided in supply line 34 and a pressure relief valve 38 is provided in the connection to the upper end of motor cylinder 22. The cylinder and piston rod pivots 23 and 26 may be positioned at various points along the base 15 and beam 11. In the Fig.9 embodiment, (not shown), the upper and lower ends of the motor cylinder are connected to accumulators. Valves in the connections between the reversing valve and the cylinder ends provide an adjustable throttling of the supply flow through the connections and free flow of exhaust. A manual stop valve is provided in the connection to the lower end of the cylinder for stopping movement of the piston. A pressure responsive valve, Fig.10 (not shown), is provided in the exhaust outlet from the reversing valve to stop the motor when the exhaust pressure rises above a predetermined level, e.g. due to sucker rod breakage, pressure relief valves being provided. The walking beam support constitutes a hydraulic reservoir. The counter balance weights of the walking beam may be suspended from a second horsehead, Fig.9, (not shown), or may be mounted on a beam pivoted to the walking beam support, beneath and parallel to the walking beam, Fig. 7 (not shown).
