Abstract

1,223,946. Glutamic acid, inosine, by fermentation. ASAHI KASEI KOGYO K.K. 30 April, 1969 [8 May, 1968], No. 22081/69. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C6] A culture of bacteria or yeast is grown in a culture medium of hydrocarbons as the main carbon source, which culture medium initially comprises at least one straight chain C 14 -C 18 paraffin hydrocarbon and to which are thereafter added C 8 -C 18 hydrocarbons of a wide carbon number range necessarily including at least one component in the range C 8 -C 13 . Examples are directed to the production of (i) L-glutamic acid by growing Corynebacterium petrophilum (ATCC 19080) on hexadecane and C 8 -C 13 n-paraffins (subsequently added), Corynebacterium hydrocarboclastus (ATCC 21402) on hexadecane and C 10 -C 13 n-paraffins (subsequently added) and Corynebacterium oleophilus (ATCC 21403) on C 14 -C 18 n-paraffins and C 9 -C 18 n-paraffins (subsequently added), and (ii) inosine by growing the adenine-less mutant Corynebacterium petrophilum ATCC 21404 on hexadecane and C 10 -C 13 n-paraffins (subsequently added). Further examples relate to the cultivation of Candida petrophilum (ATCC 20226) on hexadecane and C 10 -C 13 n-paraffins (subsequently added) and Candida tropicalis on hexadecane and C 9 -C 16 n-paraffins (subsequently added). Other species of microorganisms are also mentioned.
