Abstract
1,223,989. Disc brakes. ALFRED TEVES G.m.b.H. 2 July, 1969 [11 July, 1968], No. 33438/69. Heading F2E. A floating-caliper spot-type disc brake has its fixed brake holder 11, which is of inverted-U form straddling the brake disc 12, cut away in the centre at the top to leave two bridge parts 14, 14a with upstanding lugs 17, 17a. A brake caliper 15 is assembled relatively to the brake holder so that the pads &c. are introduced into the slot in the brake holder, while the lateral limbs 27, 27a of the caliper rest on the respective bridge parts 14, 14a ; they are secured for limited movement of the caliper radially and circumferentially relative to the disc, against resilient pressure, by spring devices which may take several forms. In Fig. 2, on the right, a strip spring 18 has a holding-down arm 18a, V-shaped part 18b and a locking tag 18c accommodated in a rectangular opening 19 of lug 17a. The lug 17a may be provided at the outer end of bridge part 14a, in which case the spring is reversed. Preferably lateral bent parts of spring 18 embrace the side edges of lug 17a. On the left of Fig. 2, arm 18a is extended by the attachment of a further spring part 28 which serves as a cover for the caliper opening 16. On the left of Fig. 5 a single holding spring 28 has near each end a slot 28a which fits over one of the lugs 17, 17a. The spring 28 is held in place by the introduction thereafter into each opening 19 of an element 29 having two bends 29a to locate it relative to the lug. Lateral lugs 30 may be provided on spring 28 which extend downwards and make resilient contact with the brake pads, pressing them outwards. Thereby the conventional cross-spring 31 may be dispensed with. With the construction of Fig. 2 (right) and its variant above referred to, the brake pads may be removed for replacement without releasing the caliper from the brake holder.
