Abstract

1,229,274. Transistor amplifying circuits. R.C.A. CORPORATION. 1 Nov., 1968 [3 Nov., 1967], No. 51958/68. Heading H3T. [Also in Division G3] A transistor circuit comprises transistor 12, Fig. 1, in common-emitter circuit with its collector direct-coupled to the base of transistor 14 which is in common-collector connection: its emitter circuit comprises resistors 22, 24 in series, the base of transistor 12 being D.C. connected to their common point. The arrangement is such that if resistors 22, 24 are in a resistance ratio of n: 1 the voltages at the points 26, 28 are independent of the supply voltage at terminal 16 and of values (n + 1)e and (n + 2)e respectively, where e is the baseemitter voltage of transistor 12. The collector circuit of this transistor may include a Zener diode (Fig. 4, not shown) to stabilize the circuit. As shown, the arrangement comprises a constant voltage source, but by applying an A.C. signal to the base of transistor 12 via a capacitor, from a low-impedance source (Fig. 3, not shown) an amplified output may be obtained from terminal 28, 26 having a stabilized D.C. level. In a second embodiment the emitter-collector path of a further transistor 42, Fig. 2, is connected in the collector circuit of transistor 12, the base of which is earthed for A.C. signals by means of a capacitor 46. This arrangement will transmit the A.C. component of signals applied via terminal 44 to the base of transistor 44, to output terminal 26 the output having the D.C. level (n + 1)e. The arrangement may be used for driving a pair of transistors in long-tailed pair connection, which may function as a limiter.
