Abstract
1,231,489. Toy building blocks. INTERLEGO A.G. 20 Nov., 1968 [29 Nov., 1967; 3 Feb., 1968], No. 55022/68. Heading A6S. A toy building set comprises box-shaped building elements, open of the bottom, which may be joined by coupling studs, and which vary in respect of size and number of studs. A first series of box-shaped elements 2, open at the bottom, each of which is provided on its upper surface with at least two pairs of primary coupling studs 5 arranged with their axes at the corners of a square, said studs serving to couple the element to a corresponding element by engagement between the side walls of the latter element, also have a secondary coupling stud 4 within the hollow space, positioned centrally in relation to the square, which may be received with a friction fit in the hollow primary coupling studs 3 on the upper surfaces of a second series of elements 1, the second series being on a larger scale than the first series, and the primary studs of an element of the first series being adapted to fit frictionally between a pair of opposed walls of an element of the second series. Preferably the outer radius A of the hollow primary studs 3 is given in terms of the radius a of the primary studs 5 and the wall thickness b of the element of the first series, by the equation:
