[Also in Division C2] Catalysts for the dehydrohalogenation of saturated di- and poly-halohydrocarbons to olefinic halides comprise metal salt melts having a melting point of less than 260‹C and comprising either (a) a mixture of a halide of a metal having one valency state and a halide of a Group IA metal, e.g. ZnC 2 +KC1, or (b) a mixture of halides of a metal having two valency states and comprising the metal in both valency states, alone or in admixture with a halide of a Group IA metal or and oxide or oxychloride of the metal having two valency states. Specified metals having two valency states are Cu, Fe, Mn, Co, Cr, Mo and W.
